HOW TO MAKE A DONATION
Use the cryptocurrency widget above to enter the type and amount of cryptocurrency you would like to contribute to MSIA. Please indicate the type of donation in the Donation Notes field. Then click on “continue” to go to the next page where you can enter your name, email, and address. Click to “continue” to the third step to enter your cryptocurrency information.
WHAT KIND OF DONATIONS CAN I MAKE?
You can enter any of these types of donations: Tithe, Seed, John-Roger Legacy Fund, HeartFelt donation, or General donation. You can donate to multiple categories by indicating the percentage to allocate, e.g., 50% Tithe, 50% Seed.
CAN I DONATE ANONYMOUSLY AND STILL GET A TAX RECEIPT?
We have an option for donors to submit only an email address in order to receive an automatic tax receipt.
WHICH CRYPTOCURRENCIES DOES MSIA ACCEPT?
We currently accept more than 70 cryptocurrencies. Click on the “Other Crypto Options” list in the donation widget to see the latest available. We are continuously exploring new cryptocurrencies to add to the platform, so please check back soon for more giving options if you don’t see the one you want. IS THE MSIA CRYPOCURRENCY DONATION PORTAL SECURE?
MSIA uses The Giving Block, the premier nonprofit platform for cryptocurrency contributions. Data integrity is foundational to all of their products and services. They use specialized, industry-proven tools to ensure encryption and data security. The donation widget is linked to a New York trust company regulated by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYSDFS). They are subject to capital reserve requirements, cybersecurity requirements, and banking compliance standards set forth by the NYSDFS and the New York Banking Law.”
ARE CRYPTOCURRENCY DONATIONS TAX-DEDUCTIBLE IN THE USA?
The IRS classifies cryptocurrencies as property, so cryptocurrency donations to 501c3 charities receive the same tax treatment as stocks. Crypto donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. By making a charitable gift of cryptocurrency, you may be eligible to significantly reduce what you would otherwise owe in capital gains taxes. Donors do not owe capital gains tax on the appreciated crypto that is donated and can typically deduct the fair market value of the donation on their taxes. This often makes cryptocurrency donations one of the most tax efficient ways to support MSIA. Talk to your tax professional to clarify how this can best work for you.
